Follow me! Instagram for home-based marketing

affiliate marketing with instagram

Building up a strong following on any social media is the result of luck, hard work and a clear strategy. If you have the time, you can develop a multi-platform approach. If not, focus on one at a time to ensure you are getting the most out of the time and energy you invest. At the moment, I’m pretty focused on Instagram. This home-based marketing blog focuses on increasing your presence on this visual platform.

Follow along

Make sure you are following and interacting with other users. If you follow plenty of people who inspire you, other Instagram users will find you and start to follow you. Numbers make a difference on this platform. If you have a lot of followers, people will take notice and follow you to see why.

Track the behaviour of top influencers

Know who the key players are in internet marketing and any other aspects of your work. It’s a great way to connect and see what others are doing. Here’s a few to get you started: Stewart Rogers (@therealsjr), Neal Schaffer (@nealschaffer), Sprout Social (@sproutsocial). You can then see who they follow. This helps tailor Instagram recommendations so get even more ideas from there.

Post regularly

As with all social media, once you have an account for your home-based marketing, make sure you interact. If you’re going to be away for a while, say so before you go. You want to avoid people thinking that your business no longer exists or that you’ve run out of things to say. Less activity also leads to your posts appearing less frequently in people’s feeds when you do interact.

Be clear

You feel X about what you are posting, and you think it will resonate with your followers causing them to X. The blanks in this sentence are clear to you but are you certain that everyone else will feel the same?

The only way to be sure is to tell them in the text that accompanies your image. Be succinct and grab their attention in the first line or so as this is all they will initially see. It’s ok to say more but you have to get them wanting to click for the extra content.

Use hashtags

These are the markers that help Instagram to track your home-based marketing content and make sure it’s put in front of the right people. I talk more about this in the next article so you can make sure your hashtag game is on point.
